Olympic & professional field hockey goalkeeper, World’s Best Goalkeeper 2015 & 2016, Member of the OCI & EOC Athletes’ Commissions
30-year-old, David Harte from Kinsale, Cork is a World Class Hockey Goalkeeper winning Federation of International Hockey, Goalkeeper of the year in 2016 & 2015. He became an Olympian at the Rio 2016 Games, captaining the Irish Men’s team at their first Olympics for more than 108 years. David and his team mates defeated Canada 4-2 to record Ireland’s first ever victory at an Olympic Games.
David is also a European Bronze medallist, defeating England in the European Championships in 2015 to win the first ever medal at that level for an Irish side. David subsequently went on to win the Best goalkeeper of the tournament award. David currently has over 203 international caps to his name and has captained the Men’s Irish team since 2015.
Originally from Kinsale, Cork, he is now living in Utrecht, The Netherlands, for the last 8 years playing professional club hockey with SV Kampong in the Dutch Hoofdklasse. A qualified Physical Education and Biology teacher, he is currently studying an MA in Sports Business from Leeds Beckett University in the UK. Currently he is a member of the Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI) Athlete Commission and was elected to the European Olympic Council (EOC) Athletes’ Commission.
